Apple iPhone 6 Review

On 19 Sep 2014 Apple had launched two new phones in their lineup which are an iPhone 6 and an iPhone 6 plus. We will talk about the iPhone 6 in this review.
The iPhone 6 is the next variant of iPhone 5s which was released last year. But there’s a lot has been changed from screen size to design compared to the predecessors. But by looking at consumers’ demands of big screen phones and stiff market Apple did take a right decision considering screen size. So they have upgraded iPhone 6 with 4.7 inch Retina HD display and also managed to use the device by single hand.
Hardware :
Apple as usual did not load the device with over power. They have only put what is required with their operating system. A lot of users complaining that Apple has got hardware as Nexus 4 but they forgot iPhone runs iOS not Android and iPhone’s hardware handles OS’s tasks very well. So its not about the hardware, it is all about the user experience. Talking about the iPhone 6’s hardware, it has got a 1.4 GHz Dual core 64 bit processor.  1 GB of RAM and available in three variants as 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB storage capacity. And to handle its new Retina HD screen and graphics it has also got a quad core PowerVR GX6450 graphic processor. This might sounds like little low compared to what we hear in Android phones, such as a 2.5 GHz Quad core Snapdragon 801 processor and 3 GB Ram. But thanks to Apple’s software, it is sufficient to handle multitasking so smoothly and also run heavy games so well.  As you can see in the below picture the graphics and details are really well handled.
iPhone6 gaming
Here we have to wait and see if they can manage to come up with graphics as displayed in Google event which is going to use unreal engine to render and the results are superb.
Apple has also added NFC support in iPhone 6 but it is limited to payment only; at least for now.
As in iPhone 5s, the iPhone 6 also come with finger print scanner which can be used to protect the device by locking it with our finger print and in payments as well.
Display :
The iPhone 6 has got a 4.7 inch Retina HD display. It has 1334 x 750 pixels resolution and packs 326ppi. This might sounds like a low resolution as the quad HD displays available in the market, but believe me this is really good for a 4.7” screen. And Apple always did a great job in terms of their displays and we can say the Retina display was itself a revolutionary and now this Retina HD will also be the best display on a phone. With this new display Apple is promising wide viewing angles and much more brighter display.  It is so bright that you will easily operate the phone in a sunny day and you don't even make it half of the bright when in low light conditions. The text is also so much sharper.

So how did they manage to fit the display in this thinest phone? Well below screenshot explains it well.

iPhone 6 Screen Technology

The iPhone 6 comes with the 8 MP iSight camera and it really captures stills very well. You can find some of the shots taken from iPhone 6 below. The camera has got f/2.2 aperture and it works well in low light conditions as well. The only drawback it has got is, it is little outside of the main body of the iPhone. That means it can not place properly on the table and camera will always be the first to contact the surface. This may damage the glass but as they have used sapphire glass to protect the camera it must not get that damaged.  We will talk a little bit more about this new camera of Apple.

Apple incorporated this Focus Pixel technology in iSight camera. You might think “What on earth this is? and Why do I care?. Well, I know its not that matters to so many people but its good to know right? So, how does it work? There are dedicated pairs of focus pixels in the sensor, which reads the light coming in when lens moves in or out and they calculate whether the object is in the phase or not. This is called “Phase detection autofocus”.  With this technology you iPhones will have faster autofocus and you will be able to capture best Macro photos with it. What else you have got with it,

iPhone6 Camera features

With these many technologies wrapped into it you will be able to take incredible photos, whether they are portraits, macros, landscapes and even panoramas. You can find these in below gallery.

Well, what the heck I am more into Videography. Is that what you are thinking, then there is more for you in this phone as well. The iPhone 6 can record Full HD 1080p videos at 30, 60, 120 and even 240 FPS. It has also got Digital Image Stabilisation, with which you can grab a video with shaky hands and the processor will fix the video for you. The downside is that, it does not have Optical Image Stabilisation which is even better that Digital. But it does the job well. And the Focus Pixel technology we talked about also makes great focusing into videos. You will be amazed to see how fast it focuses on objects as you move your camera.

That’s not all, there is more. The iPhone 6’s new Front facing camera is 1.2 MP and can capture 81% of more light, has an HDR mode and burst mode. So this must be the great news for all Selfie lovers.

iPhone 6 comes preloaded with iOS 8.  I will be writing all about iOS 8 in the “iOS 8 Review” so we will not talk a lot over here. But there are some features I feel worth mentioning. One of which is “One hand mode” or “Reachability”. This enables the user to use the big screen with one handed when necessary. I feel this will not be much more helpful in iPhone 6 but iPhone 6 plus.  So when you will double tap in touch id button it will slide down whole screen so that you can reach to top icons easily.  There is also new fitness tracker app and plenty of new notifications. There is also VoLTE for better quality calls and WiFi calling as well. So there is much more to talk about so we will do that in iOS Review.

So all these great features and brighter display will have a huge impact on battery life. iPhone 6 has a 1810 mAh battery, with which Apple is promising to go all day long with a single charge. But battery claims are always wrong as Apple tests are different and what users do on their phone is different. But still iPhone 6 will manage to give 9 to 10 hours of heavy usage.
